Familiarize yourself with technology with these 5 free courses offered by the Orange County Library System


ORANGE COUNTY, Florida. – From beginner to techie, the Orange County Library System offers free lessons on just about anything tech-related.

Classes include Microsoft Office, Excel, and QuickBooks for all skill levels. Thanks to its technology and education center, you can even create your own application in a virtual classroom.

“When you look at a computer screen, it can sometimes seem distant or abstract. When you have something tangible it makes it more exciting … you can see exactly how your coding affects your device, ”said Vanya Walker, Instructional Designer at the Orange County Library System, on how they implement games and simple tasks in their Classes.

The Orange County Library offers free classes in computers and technology.

These skills are becoming more and more important and crucial in everyday life, regardless of your age or career.

“Now it’s important to be able to make changes to websites, to be able to create apps, to be able to change different things and that creeps into the day to day aspects of our lives like using our smartphones and our work, ”Walker said.

Here are five courses that might benefit computer novices:

  1. Microsoft Word level 1 – In this course, you can create neat documents in Microsoft Word, navigate the Word user interface, and apply basic word processing techniques to create a formatted letter and ensure readability with basic editing tools.

  2. Microsoft Excel level 1 – You can start using Excel today by entering, formatting and saving data in spreadsheets and by calculating data with basic formulas.

  3. Coding – Want to take your coding skills to the next level? Learn how to write proper Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) code and how to format web pages using external style sheets.

  4. Photoshop – In this course, recommended for adults, you will be able to learn graphic concepts and terminology and familiarize yourself with the basic tools necessary for editing and retouching digital images.

  5. BizKids Club – Ready to become an entrepreneur? The BizKids Club is an instructor-led virtual program that introduces participants to the world of business and entrepreneurship. The course is recommended for children from 9 to 14 years old.

All course software and programs are available free of charge to all OCLS library members. You can find the full course program here. Due to the pandemic, most of the lessons are virtual.
